구글과 페이스북의 두 거함은 오늘날 ‘용호상박’의 전투를 벌이고 있다. 페이스북은 구글의 직원을 빼 간다. 구글은 페이스북과 같은 소셜 소프트웨어를 만드는데 정열을 쏟고 있다. 그러나 두 회사의 수익모델은 같은 원천, 즉 ‘고도로 관련성이 있는 광고’에 달렸다. 구글이 검색 결과 다음에 보여주는 웹 페이상의 연관 광고는 구글의 유일한 주 수입원이다. 페이스북의 재무 상태는 공개되지 않고 있지만 광고가 수익 모델의 핵심이라는 사실은 내부자에 의해 확인되었다.
